Mainstream Living President and CEO Bill Vaughn has announced Kris Eastman as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Eastman has more than 30 years with the organization, bringing a wealth of leadership experience and passion for service.  She will succeed Jon Zellweger who is retiring effective March 31, 2022 after 34 years with the organization.

“With the full support of our board of directors, I am thrilled to introduce Kris as the next COO of Mainstream Living,” said Bill Vaughn. “Kris is an exceptional leader and role model for our industry and possesses the skills and expertise that will continue to allow us to be an innovative and responsive force to the disability and mental health needs in central Iowa.”

Eastman started her career with Mainstream Living as a social work practicum student at Iowa State University.  After completion of her degree, she worked in direct care, eventually moving to management and senior leadership roles.  In 2013, she was appointed Vice President of Waiver Services, overseeing all residential and day programs for members with intellectual disabilities and brain injuries.  Easman has also been a surveyor for the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) since 2017.  CARF is an international organization that provides independent accreditation to health and human service programs.

As COO, Eastman will assume responsibilities for oversight of all internal and administrative operations including human resources and property management.  She will continue to serve on the Executive Management Team which works to lead the strategic vision of the organization.  “I have always appreciated the opportunities I have been afforded throughout my tenure at Mainstream Living and I am eager to start my new role as COO. I’m looking forward to taking on new challenges while using my program experience to support our leadership team in making decisions that best meet the needs of our members and staff” says Eastman.
