Celebrate

World Down Syndrome Day was first celebrated in 2006 internationally on March 21st. In 2011, the United Nations General Assembly declared the date as World Down Syndrome Day, encouraging all parties to recognize and raise awareness. Down Syndrome International encourages those interested to raise awareness about Down Syndrome.  Lots of Socks is a program through World Down Syndrome Day used to fundraise and raise awareness by wearing unique, colorful, or even mismatched socks. Socks can be purchased on their website that have the official "Lots of Socks" logo, but participation in awareness can be as simple as sporting your interesting socks to spark conversation.
Locally, Gigi’s Playhouse, a Down Syndrome Achievement Center, is having a party to celebrate the diversity of Down Syndrome. Please visit their website for more details.
