Tip of the Month

Cabin fever comes easily in the winter months, but once things begin to warm up, we're ready to throw open the windows and clean out the dust.  The term "Spring Cleaning" actually has roots back 3000 years! Here are some helpful tips to get you and your house cleaned up!
Make a schedule – focus on one room at a time, don’t get overwhelmed by thinking about the entire house at once.

  • De-clutter – studies show that clutter increases stress levels. Getting rid of unneeded and unnecessary items will help keep you calm.
  • Don’t be afraid of the kitchen or bathrooms.  While these tasks may seem daunting, they are integral parts of the home. Having these rooms clean and organized will ease your spring stress.
  • Clean safely using gloves and be cautious with strong, abrasive cleaners. Consider using green cleaning methods.
  • Look for community cleaning events or pick up days.  The Metro Waste Authority starts curbside pick-ups in April in most suburbs and smaller cities in Polk County and the City of Ames offers free yard waste days. Check out the websites below for additional information.
