Congrats MEL Graduates
In our ongoing efforts to enhance the leadership skills of supervisory personnel, Mainstream Living has continued to offer Mainstream Emerging Leaders (MEL), a professional development program for qualified staff. We wrapped up the fourth year of the program in October and had three graduates.
The purpose of the MEL program is to identify potential leaders within the company and provide tools and resources which aid in developing additional skills. During the six month program, participants receive education which assists participants in effective communication and efficient navigation through the continual changes experienced in their positions. In addition to classroom instruction, participants are paired with a mentor to provide guidance and support.
Each participant is tasked with creating a goal which would positively impact Mainstream Living. During the “graduation” event, MEL participants are asked to provide a presentation about their goal to those in attendance.
Goals from MEL graduates this year include:
- Good Leads for Team Leads is a short monthly discussion during large group meetings of a topic that an Team Lead/Assistant Team Lead thinks should be applied and shared to other HCBS leaders.
- Help simplify training practices at The Center by making a member training spreadsheet accessible to all Activity Coordinators, including a variety of information from diagnosis and assists needed, as well as likes and dislikes.
- Create a more productive office space for the Des Moines office by moving team members closer to one another, creating more privacy for working, and adding social spaces.
