From the safety committee...

Winter driving can be hazardous and scary, especially in Iowa where we tend to see snow and ice covered roads. While driving at work or on your personal time, additional preparations can improve your safety while on the road or help motorists deal with an emergency.

The three P's of Safe Winter Driving: PREPARE for the trip, PROTECT yourself, and PREVENT crashes on the road

PREPARE - Maintain your car.  Have on hand flashlight, jumper cables, abrasive material, shovel, snow brush and scraper, warning devices and blankets. If stopped or stalled - stay in your car, don't overexert.  Be sure to plan plan your route in advance, check the weather, and allow plenty of time to get to your destination.

PROTECT - Always wear your seatbelt.  Avoid use of your cell phone.

PREVENT - Slow down and increase distances between cars  Keep your eyes open for pedestrians walking in the road  Avoid fatigue.
