Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program
If you are employed by a government or not-for-profit organization, you may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).
According to Business Week, more than 60% of individuals attending college borrow money to help pay for costs. Education is expensive and student loan debt had doubled in the last decade. In an effort to help alleviate this burden, the Obama Administration created the PSLF, which forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments while working full time for a qualifying employer. The deadline for the program is quickly approaching and it has not yet been determined if the program will continue under the new administration.
Mainstream Living is a qualifying organization for this program due to our 501(c)(3) status and the services we provide. The program is only available to those with Federal Direct Loans and there are multiple requirements that must be met based on your employment and repayment of your loans. Full program details and associated forms can be found by visiting: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service.
After reviewing the qualifications, contact your loan service provider in order to determine what steps must be taken. There will be a portion that must be completed by Mainstream Living. Please contact Lynda McCalley for assistance in completing these forms.
