Mainstream Living

Leadership & Vision

Welcome to Mainstream Living!

In 1975, a group of parents in Story County believed that their children, who happened to have an intellectual disability, should be able to live and thrive in their home community. They wanted to create a safe space for their kids to grow and develop into capable, healthy and happy adults.

Thus, Mainstream Living was created to provide residential and day habilitation services for individuals with intellectual disabilities. In the later part of the 1970’s, we expanded to Polk County. There we began to serve not only individuals with intellectual disabilities,
but persons with mental health conditions as well.

Today, we provide services to nearly 500 people in Story, Polk and Dallas counties. We employ approximately 420 Iowans and are extremely proud of our staff and their dedication to our members. Mainstream strives to continue the philosophy of our founders by providing services that are competent, friendly and comfortable. It is important that our services feel like home and that we meet our mission of enhancing opportunities, creating success and fulfilling dreams.

Please join us in our vision by discovering that we are an exceptional place for your loved one to receive care or by learning more about our job opportunities and the compassionate, flexible, and fun culture that we promote.
