Baker House Flood Relief
On July 1, Mainstream Living's Baker House in Des Moines was flooded. All five residents and the staff on duty were safely evacuated. Unfortunately, the entire home sustained more than a foot of fast flowing water resulting in the loss of all furniture, many kitchen and household items, and a number of important medical supplies.
Baker House is home to five young adults with severe and profound disabilities and high medical needs. We are working with our stakeholders, staff, and parents to ensure that each of these members has safe and stable temporary housing while we repair the significant damage.
When Baker House opened in 2010, it did so thanks to the generosity of many in Polk and Jasper counties as well as surrounding communities. Our supporters came together to raise nearly $1 million dollars to provide housing and supportive services to five young people with very few options. We are asking the community to come together once again to help us replace the many many items lost during the flood. Let's get our residents back home as quickly as possible.
